Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU), BOSCO, Bangalore organized a training programme on Juvenile Justice Act 2015 for the police officers of South Division, Bangalore at BOSCO Mane, on July 21, 2017. Welcoming the gathering, Fr. Mathew Thomas, Executive Director, BOSCO, Bangalore, thanked the police department and Department of Women and Child Development, Bangalore, for their collaboration and support. Addressing the gathering, Fr. John MA, Director, SJPU, Bangalore, urged the group to maintain the record of the number of children rescued by them. Gowramma, District Child Protection (DCP) Training Officer, Bangalore spoke about Integrated Child Protection Schemes (ICPS) and other Government schemes available for the care and protection of children in Karnataka.
Rohith, Resource Person, DGP Training Office, Bangalore, explained about JJ Act -2015, care and protection given to different categories of children, Model rules to be followed by the SJPU, POCSO Act and roles of SJPU. Sandhya, Asst. Coordinator, Foster Care Program, BOSCO, Bangalore, enumerated the concept of foster care, need for foster care, importance of family care and impacts of institutional care on children, legal support for foster care, different types of foster care placements, procedures involved in foster parenting, required documents, etc.
Jenifar Y, Coordinator, BOSCO CHILDLINE, Bangalore, explained in detail the concept of CHILDLINE, its functions, child protection mechanism and the role of the emergency helpline for children in need of care and protection. Thirty Police Officers of South Division, Bangalore attended the training.
