State Level Consultation on Foster Care OrganizedSubmitted by bosconrd on Oct 31, 2017 Half-day State Level Consultation on Foster Care was organized by Foster Care Program, BOSCO, Bangalore for the NGOs of various districts of Karnataka at BOSCO Yuvodaya, Gandhinagar, Bangalore, on October 27, 2017. Shivamallu, Coordinator, BOSCO Foster Care Program welcomed the gathering. The workshop was inaugurated by Narmada Anand, Project Director, ICPS, Bangalore. She exhorted the NGOs to step-up efforts to train and prepare the potential foster parents and children for foster care.
Fr. Mathew Thomas, Executive Director, BOSCO, Bangalore, in his key note address appreciated the national guidelines provided by the Central Government. He stressed the need for convergence of the Government structures and NGOs and of the need to have networking. Fr. Joy Nedumparambil, Executive Director, BREADS, Bangalore, said that capacity building of NGOs, Government officials and community regarding Foster Care programme and its implementation is the need of the hour. Speaking on the occasion, Fr. Binny K., Director, BOSCO Mane, said that while implementing the program, the focus should be towards the best interests of the child.
Jyothi, Counselor, Foster Care Program, explained about the legal processes, types, and experience of Foster Care in BOSCO, with a promo video on Foster Care. Shivaraju, Coordinator, MCB, proposed the vote of thanks. Twenty-eight NGO participants representing twenty-one districts of Karnataka attended the consultation.
