Foster Care Awareness in Various Districts of Karnataka

Submitted by bosconrd on Mar 28, 2018 Foster Care Project, BOSCO Bangalore, organized awareness programmes for mothers visiting anganwadis, SHG members, Asha workers, Anganwadi teachers, DCPO, Fishermen communities of Karwar and Mandya Districts respectively from March 17 to 21, 2018. Information about BOSCO and its activities, Child Rights and Child Protection Mechanisms and emergency helpline CHILDLINE 1098 were given. The facilitators explained about the concept of foster care, the difference between foster care and adoption, eligibility of foster parents, different types of placements (individual and group placements), age group of children, time frame for placements and basic understanding of foster parenting skills.
The facilitators also provided detailed information about the documents required, legal procedures, time frame for the placement of the child and about competent authorities involved in placement. Fourteen mothers visiting Anganwadis in Karwar, twenty-three SHG members from Karwar, seventeen officials from Gram Panchayat Office in Karwar, fifty-four fishermen folk from Karwar and forty-four Asha workers, Anganwadi teachers, DCPO staff from Mandya District participated in the awareness programs.
