National Inclusive Children’s Parliament

National Inclusive Children’s Parliament was organized at Navinta, Okhla, New Delhi from January 28 to February 4, 2020. The children are part of the “NINE IS MINE” campaign, an advocacy movement led by children, participated in a nine day training workshop that started with a panel discussion titled ‘Children in the Republic’ where child-rights experts discussed issues related to laws, schemes, budgets and more all linked to themes of the rights of children.

A total of 75 child parliamentarians aged 11 years and above were selected from the 29 states and UTs committed to create an inclusive India with their formula of “the last child as their first priority” administered by former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar.

Apart from the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that included no poverty, zero hunger, gender equality and others, the child parliamentarians of the NINE IS MINE campaign insisted that there is an 18th goal which they call “All rights for All children”. The child advocates pressed to end all forms of child labour. The Children’s Parliament’s annual national parliamentary session concluded with a press conference and review of the Budget of 2020 with the title, ‘We the Children’.

Children were asked to take up the 99 Days Challenge and bring about a positive difference in their community, School and Country. Ms. Vindhya, Social Activist and Ms. Tanisha Sharma, Leader, District Child Rights Club Federation, Bengaluru participated in the event. Ms. Tanisha was elected as Secretary for Goals 1, 5 and 17 in the National Inclusive Children’s Parliament. Children from 29 states and union territories in India were sworn in as ‘Ministers’ at the annual National Inclusive Children’s Parliament.
