A Prospective Parents Meeting was organized by the BOSCO Foster Care Programme in collaboration with the District Child Protection Officers (DCPOs) on August 30, 2025, at BOSCO Mane, Bengaluru. The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp by all dignitaries, followed by the release of the BOSCO Annual Report. Fr. Varghese Pallipuram, Executive Director of BOSCO, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all the prospective parents for coming forward to foster children. He shared some important points for the parents to keep in mind
Mrs. Leena Kallamanavar, DCPO (Central), quoting an example, said, “Just as a plant that is uprooted and replanted takes time to grow and adapt, children, too, need time to adjust to their new environment and foster families.” She stressed the importance of providing love and care to children who are without family support.
Ms. Asha, DCPO (South, Bengaluru), provided a brief overview of the legal procedures involved, as well as the importance of both pre- and post-counselling for parents and children. Mr. Veerappan, Protection Officer (NIC), Central Division, presented the concept of Foster Care. Mr. Yogi, Protection Officer (NIC), East Division, provided guidance on how to submit the online application for Foster Care. Mr. Shivamallu, State Project Coordinator for Foster Care, shared several real-life cases and explained the step-by-step procedures for foster care placement. Mr. Prasad, Protection Officer (NIC), South Division, discussed the roles and responsibilities of both foster parents and children. Mr. Swamy, Protection Officer (NIC), North Division, underlined the vital role of the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) and Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in identifying and placing children with suitable families.
Mr. Obalesh, Social Mobiliser, BOSCO Foster Care Programme, welcomed the participants, and Mr. Shivamallu, State project Coordinator and Mr. Hanamantha, Social Mobilizer, proposed the vote of thanks. A total of 47 participants, including prospective parents, BOSCO staff, and representatives from the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), took part in the meeting.
