BOSCO Bengaluru organised a one-day capacity-building training programme for 28 staff members of CCIs at BOSCO Yuvodaya on October 30, 2026. The programme aimed to strengthen child-centred care, legal compliance, safeguarding and case management. Fr. Varghese Pallipuram, Executive Director, inaugurated the programme along with Ms. Usha, the resource person. Ms Usha sensitised participants to understanding children’s emotions, behaviour and individual needs, emphasising patient listening, empathy and sensitivity to their past experiences. Fr. Varghese conducted a session on the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, and Model Rules, 2016, highlighting statutory compliance, standards of care, child protection, Individual Care Plans, infrastructure, nutrition, healthcare and staff responsibilities. Mr. Girish, Programme Manager, led a session on systematic case management, covering assessment, care planning, documentation, coordination, rehabilitation, restoration and follow-up.
The programme concluded with a group discussion facilitated by Fr. Varghese on “Making Our CCI a Happy Home for Children.” Participants shared their institutions’ strengths, challenges and suggestions for improvement. While acknowledging the importance of a homely atmosphere, education, healthcare, recreation, and positive relationships, they highlighted concerns about infrastructure, staffing, workload, training, counselling, and children’s emotional and educational needs. Suggestions included improving child-friendly spaces, strengthening staff capacity, organising regular recreational activities, ensuring equal treatment and encouraging children’s participation in decisions affecting them. The training reinforced that effective institutional care goes beyond providing basic needs and must ensure every child’s safety, dignity, emotional well-being, participation and holistic development.
