BOSCO Bengaluru Organized Silent Candle Light Procession

 BOSCO Bengaluru, observed ‘Child Rights Week’ on the theme ‘ALL RIGHTS TO ALL CHILDREN’ to spread awareness and promote child rights from November 14 to 20, 2019.
The week-long programme culminated with a ‘Silent Candle Light March’ at Upparpet Police Station, starting from Pothys, KG Road, Bengaluru, on November 20, 2019. The purpose of the silent rally was to protest against violation of child rights, and to create awareness about the surmounting number of cases of child abuse, child labour, child marriage, begging children, trafficked children and children subjected to other forms of violence. Addressing the gathering, Smt. Nagaratna R, Chairperson, CWC 3, Bengaluru Urban, lauded BOSCO for its undeterred and relentless work among children and young at risk. She ensured the support of CWC to BOSCO in all their endeavours towards rescue and rehabilitation of needy children. Fr. Mathew Thomas, Executive Director, BOSCO Bengaluru, said, “On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the UNCRC, which India has ratified, BOSCO is taking up this issue of children’s rights so that they would have food, education, medical care, family care, a decent place to live, protection from abuse and violence and they will be listened to.” He flagged off the rally.
Tulasi, Child Representative, read out the memorandum asking the authorities to protect all their rights. The signatures of the children and public, and the memorandum were presented to Shri. Mahant Reddy, ACP, Chickpet Sub-Division, Bengaluru. Shri. Mahant Reddy assured the children that the police would strive to uphold and protect their rights. Everyone took an oath to give ‘All Rights to All Children’ and sang the theme song together.
Around 150 children who have gone through painful situations in the past, child care personnel, volunteers, child rights activists, responsible citizens, etc. took part in the rally.
