Breaking the Chains

World Day Against Child Labour with the theme, ‘Let’s act on our commitments: End Child Labour‘ was observed by BOSCO Bengaluru by participating in the programme organized by the Department of Labour on June 12, 2024 at MG Road, Bengaluru. The programme included a formal inauguration by Mr. Santosh Lad, Minister, Labour Department, Government of Karnataka, a skit on child labour, and a rally which was flagged off by Ms. Ragini Dwivedi, Actor, Kannada Film Industry. The rally took off from MG Road and culminated at KR Circle. The children and staff of BOSCO further continued the rally to the Freedom Park, shouting the slogans against child labour and creating awareness to the public on child labour. A Signature Campaign was organized where the public and the participants pledged to eradicate child labour. Government officials, college students, Scouts and Guides children, Directors from BOSCO were present in the campaign. Hundred and ten children from BOSCO Child Care Centres and areas, ninety staff and volunteers under the leadership of Fr. Johnson, Director, BOSCO Bengaluru participated in the campaign.

On the occasion, BOSCO SJPU Project conducted an essay writing competition on the theme in SLN Public School, Kalasipalya. Fifty-two children children wrote the essays on child labour. BOSCO CSN organized an awareness programme for the shop keepers and the public at Kalasipalya and Sumanahalli areas. The team gave awareness through announcements, shouting slogans and conducting signature campaign. Smt. Anupama, Senior Labour Inspector present on the occasion. Around hundred people were reached out to by way of distributing pamphlets.
