Migrants Help Desk, BOSCO Bengaluru, under the leadership of Fr. Francis Bosco, National Director, DB4M, organized a two-day training for the staff working with distressed internal migrants at BOSCO Mane on July 18 and 19, 2025. The training aimed to enhance the capacity of staff promoting a compassionate and effective response rooted in the Salesian mission. Focused on foundational understanding, sessions covered the vulnerabilities of informal migrants, the successful Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) model, and specific challenges faced by women domestic workers and gig economy workers. Discussions also highlighted exploitation in the sugarcane and garment sectors, legal rights under new labour codes. The day emphasized the need for practical solutions, advocacy, and digital support.
Representatives from various provinces (INB, INC, INT, IND, INH, INP, INK) presented their ongoing work, successes, and challenges in supporting migrants, including the impact of the KISMAT project. A significant highlight was Fr. Franklin Minj’s (the regional Secretary for Migrants) presentation on comprehensive spiritual and legal assistance to migrants. Group discussions facilitated planning for 2025–26, prioritizing sectors like construction and brick kilns, and strategizing on ID documents and helpline awareness. The DB4M National Desk outlined its roadmap, including an upcoming National Convention for Migrant Youth and a call for annual reports. The programme saw the presence of Fr. Pravinth, Provincial Councillor Fr. Deepu, Director, BOSCO Migrant Help Desk, Fr. Abhilash, Fr. Simolin, Chennai Province, Fr. KJ Joseph, Director, BOSCO Mane and Mrs. Ruth Manorama a Dalit Social and Political Activist and a Feminist from Bengaluru.
