Children’s Sports Day Organized

BOSCO Bengaluru organized Children’s Sports Day at St. Joseph’s High School, Chamarajpet, on January 18, 2026. Delivering the keynote address, Fr. Varghese Pallipuram, Executive Director, BOSCO Bengaluru, said, “Success or failure, keep smiling and move forward towards reaching the goals set forth.”  He exhorted the children to use such opportunities to hone their talents and skills, gain happiness and spread happiness to others around them. The Olympic Torch was lit and carried by the leaders representing the centres and areas with which BOSCO is associated.

Addressing the children, the chief guest, Mr K.M. Basavayya, Director of Physical Education at GFC, Jayanagar, Bengaluru, wished that the children develop sportsmanship and grow to great heights.  He quoted the example of Wilma Rudolph, an American sprinter, who overcame polio as a child and went on to become a world-record-holding Olympic champion and international sports. Talking to the children, Mr. Krishnamurthy S, International Athletics Coach, Shantinagar, Bengaluru, envisioned these children becoming successful athletes and sportsmen in fifteen to twenty years to come. Children and staff took an oath during the programme under the leadership of Master Vishal, the children’s representative.

Various sports events like running races (50 mts, 100 mts, 200mts, 400mts and relay), high jump, long jump, tug of war, shot-put, sack race, frog race, musical chair, lemon and spoon race, bomb in the city, etc., were organized for sub juniors, juniors and seniors. The Directors and staff awarded the winners medals and certificates. Fr. Joh Peter, Administrator, BOSCO Bengaluru, Fr. Joseph Dandavathi, Director, BOSCO Yuvakendra, Fr. Devaraj, Director, BOSCO Nilaya and Nivas, Fr. Deepu, Director, Projects and Migrant Help Desk and Ms. Sheeba Thomas, Director, BOSCO Vatsalya Bhavan were also present on the occasion. Around four hundred children from BOSCO centres and areas of intervention participated in the sports meet.
