Child Safety Net (CSN) Programme BOSCO, Bengaluru organized a community awareness programme for the migrant families from Bellary District working as construction labourers near Old Sangam Theatre, Gandhinagar, Bengaluru on June 30, 2019. Mr. Sampath Kumar, Construction Supervisor, supported the team in organizing the programme. It was observed that many children in the labour camp were either dropouts or not enrolled into schools during the Shaale Kade Nanna Nade campaign. The awareness included information on child rights, right to education, child protection mechanisms, CHILDLINE, Juvenile Justice Act (JJ Act), child marriage and child Labour. The team explained about the importance of education to the parents. They were also given information about various government schemes.
Through this programme the CSN team was able to enroll and re-enroll twenty-four migrant children to Arya School, Gandhinagar, Bengaluru. Fr. Mathew Thomas, Executive Director, BOSCO Bengaluru, was present for the programme. Shafi, Coordinator, CSN Programme and Devaraj, Rescue Coordinator, CSN Programme were the resource persons. Seventy migrant labourers and children participated in the awareness programme.
