BOSCO Nilaya, Bengaluru, organized ‘Day of the Poor’ to bring joy to the hearts of the poor and give a chance for them to celebrate Christmas on December 17, 2018. After bringing the street dwellers to Nilaya, they were given opportunity to cut their hair and shave their beards. They took bath and were given two pairs of dresses each. First aid and Medicines were given to people who had wounds and infections. They were allowed to watch T.V and were given refreshments. In the keynote address, Fr. Regi Jacob, Director, BOSCO Nilaya spoke about the birth of Jesus and said, “Today is the birthday of Pope. Though we believe in different religions, we are all children of one God.” Fr. Prasad, SDB, Director, BOSCO Sumanahalli and BOSCO CHILDLINE, spoke on the occasion. Motivational videos were screened. Carol singing was done by Staff. BOSCO Mane and BOSCO Vatsalya Bhavan children performed dances. Cake cutting was done. Gifts were distributed. Lunch was provided to all.
Street dwellers felt very happy and energized and thanked BOSCO Nilaya. They also said that they will help BOSCO Nilaya in rescuing, rehabilitating and referring children. Sr. Silvy Lawrence, Director, BOSCO Yuvakendra and Mr. Veeresh KM, Coordinator, BOSCO Yuvakendra were also present on the occasion. Fifty-five street dwellers were benefited from the programme.
