Foster Care Programme, BOSCO Bengaluru, organized a meeting with prospective parents at BOSCO Vatsalya Bhavan on August 17, 2021. Oblesh K, Social Mobilizer, BOSCO Foster Care Programme, introduced the purpose of the meeting. Briefing about BOSCO and its services Fr. Varghese Pallipuram, Executive Director, BOSCO Bengaluru, said that Foster Care project launched in 2012, was born out of the belief that family is the best place for a child to grow up in. The vision was to give children without families a chance to experience and grow up in a family. He said that BOSCO has become a model for the state of Karnataka. During the previous project period, Foster Care team has extended its reach to 10 districts of Karnataka, creating awareness, identifying prospective foster parents, potential children, and placing them in foster families.
Shivamallu, State Coordinator, BOSCO Foster Care Programme, explained the concept of foster care, eligibility to become a care provider under foster care, children who are eligible for placements, rights of children and foster parents in foster families, procedure involved in becoming foster parents, required documents, legal frame work and roles of authorities such as CWC members. He said that there would be regular follow ups once children are placed. Ramaswamy, Outreach Officer, BOSOCO Foster Care Programme, explained about the importance of a child being brought up in a family rather than being institutionalized. Sr. Sheeba, Director, BOSCO Vatsalya Bhavan was present for the meeting. Thirteen prospective parents participated in the meeting.
