Foster Care Program, BOSCO, organized half-day networking meeting of the NGOs at BOSCO Mane, Bengaluru, on October 27, 2018. In his key note address, Fr. Mathew Thomas, Executive Director, BOSCO, Bengaluru, said, “Foster care programme is a family care programme for children without families. This meeting aims at strengthening the Pro-Child Network.” He shared information about Foster Care and Missing Child Bureau. Speaking on the occasion, Fr. Binny K, Director, BOSCO Mane, Bengaluru, said, “We should treat and take care of the Foster Children as our own children and our focus should be on the best interests of the child”.
Mr. Shivamallu, Coordinator, Foster Care Programme, BOSCO Bengaluru, discussed about creating a WhatsApp group of the networking NGOs, maintaining a directory for Urban NGOs and State NGOs, sharing information on child related issues through email on a continuous basis, and to organize follow up meetings of networking NGOs thrice a year.
Ms. Akshitha, Counselor, Foster Care Programme, BOSCO Bengaluru, spoke about child protection, child welfare issues, child care institutions, child rights, foster care, after care, new policies, acts, difficulties faced in implementing the programme, child rights violations and the role of the network during events etc. Promo video on Foster Care was screened during the meeting. Mr. Shivaraju and Mr. Praveen State and District Coordinators, Missing Child Bureau explained about the Missing children and the procedures to follow when a child is missing.
Ms. Nandini Asst. Coordinator, BOSCO Foster Care Program, welcomed the gathering and Mr. Shivamallu, Coordinator, proposed the vote of thanks. Fifty-five participants representing fifteen Bengaluru Urban NGOs and eleven NGOs from various districts of Karnataka attended the meeting.
