A campaign to make Gandhi Nagar area ‘Child Labour Free’ zone was undertaken during the last year. The team working in Gandhi Nagar area revisited the commercial establishments in the area to assess the conditions before and after the campaign involving 15-20 staff members on April 15 and 16, 2025. On the first day, Fr. Johnson, the Director of the Gandhinagar area, along with the BOSCO Yuvodaya team, carried out the survey. On the second day, Mr. Gangdhar, Senior Labour Inspector of Gandhi Nagar, inaugurated the child labour revisit survey in the presence of Fr. Johnson.
During the survey, no instances of child labour were found in any shops or hotels. While some shopkeepers were not cooperative, most were highly supportive. It was observed that many shops were aware of the Child Labour Act, while some were not. During visits to these shops, it was found that some children under the legal age were working in a few wine and tea shops. The shopkeepers expressed strong support for BOSCO’s initiatives and assured the team that they do not employ children. Many of them appreciated BOSCO’s ongoing efforts to protect children’s rights and actively discouraged child labour while also committing to report any such cases in the future. The revisit survey concluded positively, with a total of 2,190 shops covered, reaffirming the collective responsibility of the community and BOSCO in creating a safe, child-friendly environment in Gandhinagar. Both students and staff from BOSCO participated in this revisit survey.
