Inauguration of the week long enrolment and re-enrolment awareness campaign of school drop outs, and out of school children into mainstream schools – Shaale Kade Nanna Nade was flagged off in the working areas of BOSCO Bengaluru on May 20, 2019. Fr. Mathew Thomas, Executive Director, BOSCO Bengaluru, briefed about the importance of education and enrolment. Addressing the gathering, Fr. Prasad, Director, CHILDLINE, BOSCO Bengaluru spoke about the purpose of organizing the programme to bring back drop outs into schools from the different areas of Bengaluru. Fr. George CV, Director, Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU), other staff participated in the inauguration held in various areas.
CREAM Project, BOSCO Bengaluru with the support of BOSCO Yuvakendra, BOSCO Vatsalya Bhavan and CHLID LINE organized the campaign at KP Agrahara, Magadi Road, Azad nagar, Venkataramnagar, Dasappa Garden, T.R. Mill and Chamrajpet Main Road, Janatha Colony, Vinayakanagar, Devraj Urs nagar, Old Guddadahalli, Pipeline Road, J.J.R. Nagar, Padarayanapura, Venkat Swamy Garden, Goripalya, Royapuram, Obalesh Colony, Ranganath Colony, New Guddadahalli, Shamanna Garden, Hoysalanagar, Nrupathunganagar, Maruthinagar, Shivanagar and Bapujinagar. The youth from Yuvakendra enacted the theme based mime in these areas and conducted rallies. The campaign reached out to 2750 people. 90 skits were performed.
BOSCO Nilaya Team in collaboration with BOSCO Rainbow Home started their campaign at Gurappa Garden, Vinobha Nagar followed by Cement Huts, Vyayamshaala, Rajgopal Garden, Hameed Khan Garden, Appajappa Garden, Jolly Mohalla, Mini Bakshi Garden, Bakshi Garden, Timberyard, Anandhapuram, Tippunagar, Giripuram, Kumbarpet, Bandi Modu and K.R.Market Bus stand. Message about the importance of education, enrollment and re-enrollment to schools and facilities at Government schools were disseminated by shouting slogans, displaying placards; flex boards, and distribution of pamphlets. BOSCO Rainbow home children performed skit on ‘Domestic child labor and re-enrollment to school’ twenty-four times during the campaign. Around 4600 community members and public were given awareness. 134 out of school children and 9 children eligible for enrollment were identified. 1 family requested for rehabilitation of two children. Follow up is being done. Six staff, three Student Volunteers and three Tuition teachers carried out the campaign.
The campaign headed by BOSCO Nivas team with the support of BOSCO Railway CHILDLINE and ARSP teams and tuition children went around bus stand, Russel market and Broadway Road, Armstrong Road, Meenakshi Koil Street, OPH Road, Lal Masjid Road, Nehrupuram , Motor Parts Gujri, Commercial Street, Ibrahim Sahib Street and Ambedkar Huts with placards, shouting slogans, drawing people’s attention to the cause of education, enrolling children into government schools, and utilizing the facilities provided by the government in schools. 71 children employed in the shops were identified. During the total span of six days of the campaign, close to 3000 people pledged their support for the cause of enrolling and re-enrolling the drop outs into school.
The campaign at Snake Charmer Colony, Laggere, Coolie Nagar, Chokkasandra, New RMC Yard, Asha Nagar, SRS Bus Stop, Telugu Migration Colony, Kengeri, Hakki Pikki Colony, Beedi Colony, Mallatahalli, Devaraj Urs Community, Nagarbhavi Community was taken up by Child Safety Net (CSN) with the support of SJPU and ARSP teams. The team conducted awareness programmes, door to door campaigns, regarding the importance of education, CHILDLINE and child rights for children and general public. Around four hundred children along with BOSCO staff and school teachers took up the rally around the area shouting slogans and distributing pamphlets. All those present in the programmes took a solemn pledge to identify and bring back drop outs from area and communities into schools.
People from various communities appreciated BOSCO and its work. They ensured that they will enroll children into schools. RMSA, BRC, CRP, SDMC, H.Ms, teachers from Education department, Ward Counsellors, officials from ICDS Department, Police Department, Child Welfare Committee, Bala Vikas Samithi, Youth, Community leaders, SHG, CRC were involved in the campaign. The week long campaign was conducted under the guidance and presence of Fr. Prasad and Fr. Regi.
