One Day State Level Federation Workshop on Foster Care was organised by BOSCO Foster Care at BOSCO Yuvodaya, Bengaluru on December 10, 2019. In the inaugural address Ms. Usha Kiran, Member of Foster care Guidelines, Karnataka said, “There are several challenges in Foster care, especially the process of identifying and selecting the parents and children. Every child has a right to live in the family”. Speaking on the occasion Ms. Geetha Mala, Member, Child Welfare Committee – 3, Bengaluru Urban, said, “Every child needs love, care and family environment. Most of the parents come forward to adopt a child below five years. Children above seven years of age can be placed in Foster Care”. Ms. Nagaratna, Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee – 3, Bengaluru Urban said that the parents who really care and love children can be considered as ‘Fit Foster Parents.’ Fr. Mathew Thomas, Executive Director, BOSCO Bengaluru said, “Let us join hands for promoting foster care concept so that every child can be placed in a family environment”. Fr. Varghese Pallipuram, Director, BOSCO Foster Care Programme briefed about the purpose of the workshop.
Mr. Shivamallu, Coordinator, Foster Care Programme presented the concept of Foster Care, why Foster Care, Child Rights, eligibility criteria of children and parents, types of Foster Care, roles and responsibilities of children, foster parents, and CWC. Mr. Manjappa, State Coordinator, CREAM, Davanagere facilitated the process of Federation formation.
Fr. Varghese Pallipuram, Director, Foster Care, welcomed the gathering and Ms. Akshitha, Counsellor, Foster Care Programme proposed the vote of thanks. Over eighty-five participants, including Self Help Group members, SDMC Members, Anganawadi Teachers, Asha Workers, NGO Staff, Community members, Panchayat Raj Institutions(PRI) members, Foster Parents, Social Activists, Youth Members, Police Officers, DCPU Staff, etc. from fifteen districts of Karnataka were part of the Federation.
