Department of Woman and Child Development (DWCD), Bengaluru, Karnataka organized Half Day State Level Video Conference on the implementation of Foster Care Programme at the Director’s Meeting Hall, MS Building, Bengaluru on February 13, 2019. Shailaja, Programme Manager, State Adoption Resource Authority (SARA), Bengaluru, welcomed the gathering and presented the district wise statistical data of the prospective parents and children in Karnataka. Neena Nayak, Former Chairperson, KSCPCR introduced the concept of Foster Care and explained in details about the importance of foster care in the present scenario to the DCPOs and CWC members of the districts. Sindhu Nayak, Director, Karnataka State Council for Child Welfare, Bengaluru explained about adoption and foster care rules and regulations and the legal procedures involved.
Shivamallu, Coordinator, Foster Care Programme, BOSCO Bengaluru, spoke about the criteria involved in the selection of prospective parents, concept of group foster care and the follow up process of children placed in foster families. Mahesh, Coordinator, SOS, Bengaluru, briefed about the process of selection of mothers for foster care, training them and placing them along with eight children each in homes in the SOS campus. He also explained about the expenses incurred per child.
Tanushree, Director, Karnataka State Integrated Child Protection Scheme (KSICPS) exhorted the DCPOs and CWC members to implement the Foster Care Programme with the proper plan in place. A committee was formed at the state level for planning of the programme for implementation. BOSCO Bengaluru has been included as the member of the planning committee.
Laxmikantamma, Project Director, KSICPS, Bengaluru, was present during the Video Conference. DCPOs from thirty districts and their respective CWC members were present during the video conference at their respective district offices.
