International Human Rights Day at BOSCO, Bengaluru

On the occasion of the International Human Rights Day, BOSCO Bengaluru, organized various activities in its centres. Human rights awareness programme was organized at Shri Vidyaniketan English medium school, Jaraganahalli, Bengaluru on December 10, 2018. In the keynote address Fr. Prasad, Director, CHILDLINE Collab, BOSCO, Bengaluru described about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), and said that everyone should join hands to prevent violation of human rights. Everyone should take steps to uphold and promote the rights of all human beings. He explained about the services of CHILDLINE 1098 and how CHILDLINE team would reach out to any child in need of care and protection.
Mr. Basavaraju, Coordinator, SJPU, BOSCO Bengaluru, addressed the gathering and explained about Juvenile Justice Act and POCSO Act. Mr. Somaraju, ASI, Puttenahalli police station, explained about Drug addiction and the ill-effects of consuming alcohol and drugs. Children should avoid the use of drugs and alcohol, he said. Over hundred seventy-nine children and fifteen teachers participated in this programme.
CREAM Project, BOSCO Bengaluru, organized Human Rights Day celebration at GKMPS, Kadapaswamy Matt, GHPS, Bapujinagar on December 10, 2018. Mr. Ramaswamy, Coordinator, Ms. Prathibha, and Ms. Vinnarasi, Social Activists, CREAM, BOSCO, Bengaluru, spoke about UNO, empowered children about Human Rights and acts. A few incidents of Human Rights Violations were shared and discussed. Children were motivated to restore Human rights and help others in difficult situations as much as possible. Seventy-nine children and two teachers participated.
BOSCO Yuvakendra celebrated the International Human Rights Day with the youth residing at the centre. Sr. Silvy Lawrence, Director, BOSCO Yuvakendra briefed about the importance of the day and explained about the human rights and the importance of protecting and promoting human rights. Twenty-three youth participated in the celebration.
