OPEN SHELTER

BOSCO Yuvakendra is a registered an open shelter under the JJ ACT. It is supported under the open shelter scheme  of the ICPS department of the Government of Karnataka. Open shelter provides short stay support for homeless children and  children away from their homes. Many facilities are provided to them such as: food, counseling, medicine, shelter, home placement, education and skill training placement  etc Unaccompanied children found on the streets and at other difficult and dangerous situations are given support to build their lives back to the mainstream of the society.

CHILDLINE 1098

On May 16, 2002, BOSCO Bengaluru began to function as the collaborative organization of CHILDLINE in Bangalore.BOSCO CHILDLINE works for the protection of the rights of all children in general, with special focus on street children and youth living on the streets, child labourers working in the unorganized and organized sectors, domestic help, especially girl domestics, children affected by physical / sexual / emotional abuse in families, schools or institutions, children who need emotional support and guidance, children of commercial sex workers, child victims of the flesh trade, victims of child trafficking, children abandoned by parents or guardians, missing children, runaway children, children who are victims of substance abuse, differently abled children, children in conflict with law, children in institutions, HIV/ AIDS infected children, children affected by conflict and disaster, child political refugees, and children whose families are in crises. It is a district model childline and it is a project of the Government of India. Bosco acts as its  collaborative agency.

RAILWAY CHILDLINE

Right from the time of the inception of BOSCO, railway stations have been the centre of child care operations of the organization. KrantiveeraSangolliRayanna Railway station is a large space with 10 platforms, where every day around 164 trains arrive and depart carrying passengers from all over India, and many vulnerable children arrive or are brought to Bangalore for various reasons. It sees children from different states of India, and also neighbouring countries like Nepal and Bangladesh, alighting at the station to come to the city of Bengaluru. Since April of 2018, CHILDLINE has been functioning to reach out and care for children in distress at the Bangalore city railway station. Bosco implements the Childline project at the railway station as its collaborative agency. Childline is a project of the Government of India.

MISSING CHILD BUREAU

BOSCO functions as the State Nodal Agency for the Missing Child Bureau (MCB) of the State of Karnataka. It works in collaboration with the Department of Women and Child Development and police in collecting and sharing information about missing and unaccompanied children by using the latest technologies and strategies. BOSCO monitors the entire project for the better implementation and convergence of data of the missing and unaccompanied children under a single window system. It also acts as a link between the DWCD, the police, and the partner NGOs in their operations. MCB uses a web based technology (ChildMISS) to track and trace missing children. It also collaborates with NGOS in all the districts of the state of Karnataka who carry out missing complaint registration and other related works.

SPECIAL JUVENILE POLICE UNIT Assisting (SJPU)

BOSCO through the Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU) has been assisting the police in handling child related cases. BOSCO handles two divisions in Bengaluru – the South and West divisions, covering 36 police stations.  The primary objective of SJPU is to create a child friendly approach to dealing with children involved in criminal offences. The BOSCO SJPU wing conducts various public awareness programmes to sensitize officials and people about crimes by children. These programmes include special training for police officials, and counseling sessions for both children charged with criminal offences and their parents. All serious cases are referred to Observation Home for further intervention by the Juvenile Justice Board. BOSCO SJPU also networks with various government departments and other NGOs.
