BOSCO Bengaluru observed World Day Against Child Labour on June 12, 2026, by actively participating in the state-level campaign organized by the Department of Labour at Kanteerava Outdoor Stadium, Bengaluru, under the theme “Red Card to Child Labour: Fair Play for Children, Decent Work for Adults.” The programme was inaugurated by senior government officials and dignitaries, including Ms. Michiko Miamoto, Director, International Labour Organization, New Delhi, Mr. H.N. Gopal Krishna, IAS, Commissioner of Labour, Government of Karnataka and Smt. Salma K Fahim, Secretary to Government. Addressing the gathering, Ms. Miamoto highlighted the global commitment of 187 countries towards eliminating child labour.
The event featured an oath-taking ceremony, street play, Veeragase performance, and a rally from Kanteerava Stadium to Cubbon Park. BOSCO extended the rally to Freedom Park, raising slogans against child labour and promoting child protection. Fr. Varghese Pallipuram, ExecutiveDirector of BOSCO Bengaluru, urged children and staff to show a “red card” to child labour and report such cases through child helpline services.
Around 200 children, 50 staff and volunteers, government officials, students, Scouts and Guides participated in the main campaign. Across Bengaluru, BOSCO projects organized rallies, awareness sessions, signature campaigns, and public outreach programmes at railway stations, bus terminals, schools, hospitals, and communities. The CSN Project, Railway CHILDLINE, BOSCO Nivas, Bus Stand and KSR Teams, BOSCO Mane and Vikas, BOSCO Yuvakendra, BOSCO Yuvodaya, Nilaya Study Centre, Nivas and SMVT Team, and BOSCO Vathsalya Bhavan conducted activities emphasizing child rights, the importance of education, and the prevention of child labour, while promoting child helpline numbers 1098 and 112.
Through these coordinated initiatives, BOSCO reached and sensitized several hundred children, stakeholders, and members of the public, reaffirming its commitment to creating a child labour-free society where every child enjoys the right to education, protection, and dignity.
