NETWORKS

PRO-CHILD NETWORK

The Pro-Child Network was formed in 2018 with the aim of bringing NGOs together to discuss various concerns related to children and to bring about policy level changes by advocating with the Government. Around 22 NGOs are a part of this network. This network meets once in 4 months.

NETWORKING WITH THE GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS

KSCPCR, DWCD, ICPS, Labour Department, Police Department, Education Department, AHTU, Health Department, Transport Department etc are some of the Government departments with which Bosco networks for the sake of children. BOSCO works closely with government structures like the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Junvenile Justice Board (JJB), Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR), Integrated Child Protection Society (ICPS) State Committee, CPP Committee and Drafting Committee for foster care guidelines.Other platforms that provide networking opportunities are Child Rights Clubs, NGOs, School teachers, Parents, SDMC members, Local leaders of the ward etc.Being a part of policy making bodies, many government departments seek the suggestions and observations of BOSCO on issues related to child care, protection, and children in conflict with law. BOSCO’s four decade long experience both at the grass root and policy making levels havecontributed to the welfare of children in the state.

FOSTER CARE NETWORK

Considering institutionalization as the last resort, from 2012 BOSCO began promoting FosterCare as an alternative family care. BOSCO has worked with the Ministry of Women and Child Development for formulating National Foster Care guidelines. BOSCO has placed children in foster care in Karnataka. It has organized 2 National Foster Care Consultations and State Consultations. It works with the Government of Karnataka for the formulation of Foster Care guidelines. Currently BOSCO is working in many districts of Karnataka to promote foster care. It has formed Foster Care Network in 10 districts. The activities of the network are awareness creation on Foster care, identifying potential foster parents, counseling them, identifying and preparing children for foster care, visiting the homes of the potential foster parents, visiting children at school to ensure their well-being and growth,organizing training and advocacy at the NGO and Government level, as well as maintaining systematic documentation.

YaR NETWORK

BOSCO is an active member of the Don Bosco National Forum – Young at Risk (YaR) network which is headquartered in New Delhi. It is committed to the care and protection of children/youth who are at risk, such as: street and vagrant children, runaways, unaccompanied children, child labourers, school dropouts, young migrants, refugees, the young into substance abuse etc. As part of the network BOSCO Bengaluru serves  as the Nodal Agency/hubof the ChildMISSprogramme of National YaR in Karnataka and Kerala.

KARNATAKA  STATE ICPS EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Karnataka State ICPS Executive committee is a high power committee with responsibility to monitor the effective implementation of Integrated Child Protection Scheme of the Government. BOSCO has been selected to be on this committee as a recognition of the many years of contribution to the field of child welfare in the State of Karnataka.

CREAM NETWORK

Child Rights Education and Action Movement (CREAM) was initiated in 2012 by  BREADS, Bengaluru, to establish child participation as the key face of child development. BOSCO, as a member of this network, works closely with children in schools and slum communities, to provide them with a platform to share ideas, and empower them to address their own protection issues. It works through tuition centres, Child rights clubs (CRCs), Schools, government departments, Local administrative bodies, and other stakeholders in the society.
